(Visakhapatnam) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s perseverance, dedication, and focus on the welfare of the workers, along with his extensive discussions with the central government, have resulted in the coalition government giving its full support to the revival of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. As a result,
the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), managed by Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), achieved a milestone in its history by producing a record 21,012 metric tons of hot metal in a single day on December 14, 2025, stated Telugu Desam Party (TDP) state president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivas Rao.
Describing this achievement as a crucial milestone, Srinivas Rao stated that the plant has surpassed its established daily capacity for the first time, indicating a decisive shift in operational performance. Recalling the role played by the Telugu Desam Party in preventing the privatization of the factory in 1998, he said that they are demonstrating the same resolve in 2025 to ensure that VSP remains in the public sector.
He stated that in December 2025, the steel plant recorded an average daily hot metal production of approximately 19,450 metric tons, which is equivalent to nearly 92% capacity utilization. He added that disciplined production processes and more efficient management practices collectively contributed to this revival.
He mentioned that over ₹14,000 crore in funds were mobilized to stabilize the plant, including ₹11,440 crore from the central government and ₹2,600 crore from the state government, and these funds provided crucial financial support.
He said that a similar spirit of cooperation is being seen under the leadership of Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, MP Bharat, and the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which is guiding the plant back towards profitability.
He alleged that the previous YSR Congress Party government was responsible for RINL’s financial distress. He said that during their tenure, debts of ₹38,000 crore accumulated on the plant. He stated that the public sector undertaking was pushed into a severe crisis due to the stoppage of production, continued payment of salaries, and the resulting increase in debt. Srinivasa Rao criticized some YSRCP leaders and several trade unions for engaging in “irresponsible propaganda” and stirring up unnecessary controversies without fully understanding the ground realities.

He emphasized that the coalition government has done everything within its power. He clarified that the future of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant now depends on the trade unions, workers, and displaced families understanding the facts and cooperating with the management to safeguard the long-term stability of the public sector undertaking.
