In the backdrop of the extreme low pressure formed in the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to strengthen into a depression within the next 12 hours, the government machinery should be on alert, Chief Secretary Sri K. Vijayanand has directed the collectors of the affected districts.

On Wednesday, the CS held a teleconference with the collectors of Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Tirupati, Annamayya and Kadapa districts, as well as APSPDCL CMD Loteti Sivashankar. Speaking on the occasion, CS Sri K Vijayanand said that in the backdrop of the extreme low pressure formed in the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to strengthen into a depression within the next 12 hours, all precautionary measures should be taken to prevent any damage.

The Meteorological Department has announced that this cyclone is likely to move towards North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and the South Coast and strengthen further in the next 12 hours, and due to this, there is a possibility of heavy rains in the South Coast and Rayalaseema, he said. He said that along with heavy rains, strong gusty winds are likely to blow. In this context, the CS has ordered that all NDRF, SDRF, Police and Fire personnel should be ready for relief measures.

He has ordered that the staff in the control rooms in the affected districts should be on alert 24/7. Similarly, Shri Vijayanand has advised that preventive measures should be taken to prevent any loss of life. He has asked that necessary relief measures be taken without causing any inconvenience to the people. He has advised that the people should be informed about the current weather conditions from time to time. He has ordered that the staff in the control rooms should be available 24 hours a day to provide assistance to the people.

Due to the impact of the cyclone, the authorities should take proactive steps to provide basic necessities like drinking water, electricity and transport to the people. Shri K. Vijayanand ordered that immediate steps should be taken to restore these facilities if any disruption occurs anywhere. Fishermen should be advised to take steps not to go fishing. Collectors should be advised to monitor the measures being taken in the rehabilitation centers from time to time. As it is known that the impact of this cyclone will be greater in the AP SPDCL area, CS Shri K. Vijayanand instructed the concerned CMD Loteti Sivashankar to take steps to prevent disruption in the power supply.

The CS advised that necessary equipment and personnel should be made available to restore power supply immediately if there is any disruption in the power supply anywhere. On this occasion, the Collectors of the respective districts explained to the CS the steps being taken in their area.
