Andhra Pradesh Mines & Geology Minister Kollu Ravindra clarified that the construction sector had lagged behind due to shortcomings in the sand policies in the past, and now officials should work vigilantly to prevent such a situation from recurring.
He issued clear instructions to the officials to immediately identify and rectify any deficiencies in sand availability, ensuring that bills are mandatory for sand transportation, and take strict action against illegal transportation, overloading, and illegal mining. He reminded them that public satisfaction is paramount and that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is giving special priority to sand transportation.
The Minister suggested that since the positive public perception survey has increased by approximately 10 percent in the last three months, efforts should be made to further improve performance at the ground level.
Joint Collector Y. Megha Swaroop said,
that the district administration will take all necessary measures. She clarified that they will focus on effectively implementing the free sand policy in accordance with the guidelines set by the government, and at the same time, take strict action against overloading, illegal mining, and illegal transportation in coordination with the Mines, Police, Revenue, and Transport departments.
District SP D. Narasimha Kishore expressed concern that road accidents and loss of life are increasing due to overloading in sand lorries. To prevent this situation, he stated that strict monitoring would be implemented on sand lorries to curb overloading, and that the police department would work in coordination with other departments to completely stop illegal sand mining being carried out through boats in the rivers.
District Mines and Geology Officer D. Phani Bhushan Reddy, while providing details on the district’s progress, said that transparency has increased with the implementation of real-time digital tracking through APSMS. He stated that approximately 4.13 crore metric tons of sand are available in the 77 legally permitted sand reaches in the district, and an additional 1.36 crore metric tons of sand are available in 43 reaches whose permits are currently under process.

The meeting was attended by MLAs Adireddy Srinivas and Muppidi Venkateswara Rao, District Mines Officer D. Phani Bhushan Reddy, RDO Rani Susmitha, and other officials and public representatives.
