The state government has requested the central team to show generosity and provide assistance to the state due to the Montha cyclone. The state has said that the damage caused by the Montha cyclone is Rs. 6384 crore and has requested the center to provide immediate assistance of Rs. 901.4 crore.

The central team has arrived in the state to assess the damage caused by the Montha cyclone.  An 8-member central team led by Union Home Ministry Joint Secretary Pasumi Basu and Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ministry Director Dr. K. Ponnuswamy was welcomed by officials at the RTGS in the Secretariat on Monday. Later, Revenue Department Chief Commissioner Land Administration Special Chief Secretary G. Jayalakshmi and RTGS CEO Prakhar Jain explained the damage caused by Cyclone Montha through a power point presentation. They said that Cyclone Montha had caused havoc in 24 districts of the state.

Jayalakshmi said that the damage was beyond expectations. Cyclone Montha has caused severe damage to the agricultural sector. The cyclone has submerged the crops that were in the harvesting stage, causing irreparable damage to the crops that are the basis of livelihood of the farmers. It has been said that paddy, cotton, millet and maize crops have been damaged in 1.61 lakh acres.

He also said that horticultural crops in 6,250 hectares and mulberry orchards in 17.72 hectares have been damaged.  Fishermen have also been badly affected by the cyclone. Fish ponds covering 3063 hectares have been destroyed, he said.

4,566 houses have been damaged and 1853 schools have also been damaged due to the cyclone. He said that 4,794 km of roads, 311 bridges and culverts have been damaged in the R&B department. He said that 3437 minor irrigation works and 2417 major and medium irrigation projects have been damaged in the Water Resources department.

He said that relief operations will also be carried out on a war footing. He said that this time, with the experience of the Buda Meru floods, 680 drones have been used for flood relief operations.

He said that 82.3 mm of rainfall was recorded between October 27-29, which is 9 times more than the normal rainfall. He said that the cyclone affected 443 districts, and that 3 people died due to this disaster, 9,960 houses were submerged and 1,11,402 people were left homeless.

He said that 12 NDR F and 13 SDR F teams, 1,702 vehicles and 110 swimmers have been deployed in the cyclone relief operations. He said that 2,471 rehabilitation centres have been set up in 22 districts and 1,92,441 people have been rehabilitated.
