AMARAVATI: In the incident where some people residing in Lalacheruvu, Choudeswaranagar and Swaroopnagar areas near Rajahmundry in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh were admitted to various hospitals after drinking milk supplied by a milk vendor on the 16th last month.

The District Collector and Superintendent of Police sent the milk samples supplied on a war footing for lab tests,  received reports today, when the officials examined the test reports,

It was confirmed that there was adulteration in it and the lab reports stated that the victims had consumed the adulterated milk containing toxic “EG-ethylene glycol” leading to acute renal failure (kidney failure) leading to multi-organ failure., stated lab reports.

Of the 20 victims who were hospitalized, 9 have died so far. The remaining 11 are undergoing treatment in various hospitals, the collector said.

In this regard, the Rajahmundry police have registered a case against milk trader Ganesh, started an investigation, arrested him and sent him to remand.

Addala Ganeswara Rao @ Ganesh (age 37) of Narasapuram village in Korukonda mandal in the district has been collecting milk from 43 farmers around Narasapuram village for some time,

storing it in a freezer with two containers at his house, then converting it into cans and supplying this milk to people living in Chaudeswaranagar and Swaroopnagar areas under Lalacheruvu limits of Rajahmundry for some time, the police said.

The officials said that the process of taking further action based on the points mentioned in this lab report is ongoing. DSP (Kovvur Sub-Division) Sri Deva Kumar has been appointed as the investigating officer for this case.
