Andhra Pradesh State Agriculture, Cooperation, Marketing, and Fisheries Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu stated that the aqua sector has become a crucial pillar of the Andhra Pradesh state economy, and the coalition government is providing complete support for the development of aquaculture.

On Tuesday, Minister Atchannaidu attended as the chief guest at the swearing-in ceremony of the governing body members of the State Aquaculture Development Authority at the Fisheries Department office in Penamaluru, Krishna district.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that in the wake of the difficulties arising from the conditions prevailing in the global market and the tariffs imposed by US President Trump, the state government is taking measures in coordination with the central government to overcome these challenges affecting aqua farmers.

The Minister stated that extensive publicity is needed regarding the quality and reliability of Andhra Pradesh prawns across the country, and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is constantly working with the aim of exploring new markets, increasing exports, and ensuring remunerative prices for farmers.

He said that every farmer should focus on quality, only then will they get a good price. He added that Andhra Pradesh accounts for 29 percent of the country’s fisheries sector. The Chief Minister has suggested that registration of fish and shrimp ponds based on survey numbers be made mandatory, and so far, 48 percent of the ponds across the state have been registered, he said.

He stated that the difficulties previously faced by farmers in registering their ponds have been eliminated, and geo-tagging has also been implemented for the ponds.

He revealed that a committee will be formed to address the problems in the aquaculture sector. Minister Atchannaidu clarified that so far, electricity subsidies worth Rs. 800 crore have been provided to aqua farmers, and this is being increased to Rs. 1,200 crore, adding that the electricity subsidy will be applicable only to registered farmers.
