Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu attended the first major equipment erection ceremony for AM Green’s Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia Complex (likely “Hydrozan” referring to this green hydrogen/ammonia plant) in Kakinada today,

This marks a key milestone in India’s largest clean-energy project, converting an existing ammonia-urea facility into a zero-carbon green ammonia hub.

Event DetailsThe ceremony, described as an inauguration or foundation-laying equivalent, was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan. It signals the start of construction for India’s first green ammonia project, with equipment installation beginning immediately.

Plant SpecificationsLocated at Kakinada, the facility targets 1.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) green ammonia production by 2030, phased as 0.5 MTPA by 2027 and 1 MTPA by 2028. It integrates 7.5 GW solar/wind, 1,950 MW electrolysers, and 2 GW round-the-clock renewables via pumped hydro storage at Pinnapuram.

Investment and ImpactThe $10 billion project, backed by investors like Petronas, GIC, and ADIA, will create 8,000 construction jobs and high-skill roles in renewables, logistics, and ports.

It enables green ammonia exports to Europe (e.g., Uniper in Germany) and Asia, using the plant for shipping fuel and power generation.

Technology OverviewGreen hydrogen is produced via electrolysers splitting water with renewable power, then combined with nitrogen for ammonia synthesis, replacing fossil fuels for zero emissions. Long-term offtake deals with the position of Andhra Pradesh as a global green energy exporter.

By June 2027, the production of green ammonia will commence. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu said that the green ammonia will be supplied from Kakinada to Germany.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a target of producing 500 gigawatts of green energy. We have set targets to produce 160 megawatts of green energy in Andhra Pradesh, aligning with his goal, and the coalition government is moving forward in that direction.

This plant, being built by AM Green through this project, will produce products such as green hydrogen, ammonia, ethanol, and green molecules.

There is no better destination than Andhra Pradesh for wealth creation. In the future, Andhra Pradesh will become a hub for the knowledge economy, and the government will provide full support to the investments coming into the state, said Chief Minister Chandrababu.
