(Rajamhandravaram)A total of 361 families and 1193 people have been shifted to rehabilitation centres across East Godavari district in the wake of Cyclone Montha, District Collector Kirti Chekuri said in a statement on Tuesday.

The authorities are constantly on alert in the mandals affected by Cyclone Montha and steps have been taken to ensure that drinking water, food and medical services are always available in the camps.

A total of 8 rehabilitation centres have been set up in the Kovvur division. Government schools in Maddur, Kovvur, Nallajarla, Dubacherla, Khandavalli, Peravali and Nidadavol areas have been converted into temporary camps and necessary facilities have been provided. He said that 912 people from 264 families are currently taking shelter in these centres. Tahsildars and Mandal officers are personally monitoring the camps and providing necessary assistance.

He said that 3 rehabilitation centers have been set up in the Kateru and Hukumpet areas of the Rajahmundry division. He said that 281 people from 97 families are getting temporary shelter in these camps. He said that the authorities are working to ensure that facilities like electricity, sanitation, medical services, and drinking water supply are continuously maintained.

As part of the impact of Cyclone Montha, the details of the rainfall and wind intensity (meters/second) recorded in 272 revenue villages across the district on the 28th and 29th were communicated in advance in the form of a table by the mandal level officials. Based on that information, Collector Kirti Chekuri suggested that appropriate plans be made at the village level. She appealed to the people to be vigilant by considering the warnings of the Meteorological Department in areas where the wind intensity is high.
