All India Newspaper Employees Federation (AINEF) National Senior Vice President Chaladi Poornachandra Rao has urged the Central Government to announce exemption from toll fee charged for vehicles on national highways from August 15 for accredited journalists working in various newspapers in various states of the country, in a statement here today.

In the statement, Poornachandra Rao said that the 50 percent journalist railway concession scheme, which was cancelled during the Covid period, should be restored from comming Independence Day.

He also demanded that a national pension scheme be introduced with generosity for retired journalists who have been collecting news for decades and are facing many financial and health problems after retirement. He appealed to the Union Finance Minister, National Highways Minister and Union Railway Minister to announce these three demands immediately.

His federation has been demanding the central government to implement the National Pension Scheme for years. He said that despite their requests, the families of journalists are facing serious difficulties in old age due to the lack of government initiative.

He requested the central government to immediately implement the National Pension Scheme and Health Scheme. He said that attacks by anti-social forces on journalists have been increasing for some time and he asked the concerned state governments to take steps to strictly implement the law framed for their protection.

Before issuing accreditation to journalists, accreditation should be granted only after conducting a police investigation into their conduct, because for some time now, some people without minimum educational qualifications, people with criminal tendencies, and some anti-social forces have entered the field of journalism in many states and are committing acts that are tarnishing the honor of the fourth estate.

He said that the respective state governments should respond in this regard and decide on the qualification for intermediate in mandal and tehsil centers and degree in district centers.

Recently, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed his anger that even those without minimum educational qualifications are entering the field and corrupting journalism, which shows how frustrated he is with such people.

The Andhra Pradesh government, which is also in a coalition, is giving posts to those supported by the previous government and ignoring other unions. Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and BJP leader Madhav should thoroughly examine and decide who is being appointed to the posts.

Poorna Chandra Rao requested that government announcements be issued to all newspapers in the state through the roster method and help be given to the newspapers. He appealed to Chief Minister Chandrababu.
