Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has made it clear that growth in tourism and trade sectors is possible with sports…that is why sports are being given top priority in Andhra Pradesh.

The Chief Minister said that AP Sports Policy has been brought to produce the best sportsmen and attract sports facilities and investments.

On Monday, the Chief Minister visited the Singapore Sports School along with renowned badminton coach Pullela Gopichand, ministers and officials on the second day of his Singapore tour. The Chief Minister told Singapore Sports School Principal Ong Kim Soon that sports schools should be centers for entertainment, tourism and trade activities in addition to producing the best sportsmen.

He said that he is giving a lot of incentives with the intention of producing international sportsmen in Andhra Pradesh. He said that the sports reservation in government jobs in AP has been increased from 2 to 3 percent, and the incentives given to those who have won medals in the Olympics, Asian Games, World Championship and National Games have been greatly increased.

He said that those who have won gold medals in the Olympics will be given Rs. 7 crore, those who have won silver Rs. 5 crore, and those who have won bronze medals Rs. 3 crore. The Chief Minister said that those who have won medals in the Olympic and Asian Games will be given Group-1 jobs.

He also revealed that a sports city is being built in Amaravati to give priority to sports. He explained that integrated sports complexes will be built in Tirupati, Vizag and Amaravati. He said that sports schools are planned to be set up in Kadapa, Vijayawada and Vizianagaram on the lines of the Singapore Sports School.

The Singapore Sports School is trying to make Singapore a world-class sports hub, the institution’s principal Ong Kim Soon told Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.

He revealed that the Singapore Sports School is implementing a hyperperformance sports system. He said that high standards and high-performance systems have been created for this.

He said that rules have been made to give admission to students who are interested in sports in the sports school. Students are admitted only after they turn 12 years old and are given training in sports. Ong Kim Soon told CM Chandrababu Naidu that the sports school has been linked with national sports associations and academies.
