AINEF acts as a collective voice for media workers, focusing on labour rights, fair wages and press freedom. Its primary objectives include the implementation of a wage board and the implementation of wage board recommendations (such as the Majithia Wage Board) to ensure fair wages across the industry.
Recently, AINEF called for the repeal of the Working Journalists and Other Newspaper Employees (Conditions of Service) and Other Regulations Act 1955, urging the government to replace it with a modern law that better protects media professionals in the digital age.
They say the federation strongly opposes the trend of hiring journalists through third-party agencies or on short-term contracts.
They argue that this is a tactic used by media houses to circumvent labour laws. It is a full member and affiliate of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), the world’s largest organisation of journalists.

And AINEF has units and affiliated unions in many states of the country and our federation is also actively campaigning for the central government to set up a new National Pay Board to account for inflation and better living standards of newspaper employees, both journalists and non-journalists.
