AMARAVATI: Gates Foundation Chairman Bill Gates personally inspected the state government’s use of technology and AI-based farmer services in the agricultural sector along with Chief Minister Chandrababu. Gates, who visited a farm near Undavalli Karakatta on Monday, was briefed by senior officials of the agriculture department on the programs to increase the use of technology among farmers.
He informed about the steps taken by the government to increase yields and reduce cultivation costs in agriculture and allied sectors. He also said that special activities are being taken for the export of quality crop products and efforts are being made to ensure higher income for farmers.
It was revealed that analytics and monitoring dashboards are being used in the farmer service centers to provide better services to farmers. On this occasion, women farmers Mani, Annapurna… informed Gates about the APA AIMS Rythu app recently launched by the Chief Minister.
He said that through this app, they are easily learning about which crops to grow, irrigation management, soil properties, prices, market information, and pesticide control. He explained the identification of crop pests through AI, the steps to be taken to prevent them, as well as the way in which pesticides are being used by getting drone services.
In the presence of Bill Gates, farmers used the AI tool to take a photo of the infected plant and upload it. AI identified the disease and provided preventive instructions. Later, the drone service was booked, and the drone sprayed the plant where the disease had spread. Bill Gates, who saw this himself… praised the state government for providing excellent AI-Agritech services to farmers.
