Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand has directed the officials of the concerned welfare departments to complete the admission process in various welfare hostels and residential schools in the state at the earliest.
On Tuesday, at the State Secretariat, he reviewed the hostels and residential schools of SC, ST, BC and Minority Welfare Departments across the state. The admission process, food facilities, their management etc. were reviewed.
Speaking on the occasion, the CS said that it is mandatory for all welfare hostels in residential schools to link the Facial Recognition Attendance System (FRAS) with RTGS and monitor it continuously. Similarly, he clarified that efforts should be made to provide better meals to the students as per the existing diet menu and there should be no compromise in the quality of food.
He said that it is very important to ensure that the dining halls are completely clean. In this regard, he directed the officials of the concerned welfare departments to take appropriate steps to keep the hostel surroundings, including the kitchen, clean, in addition to daily cleaning.
The CS also clarified that special pest control measures should be taken in all hostels and residential schools to control insects like cockroaches.
To further improve the functioning of various welfare hostels, the concerned welfare department officials including the District Collector and the state level officials should conduct frequent surprise inspections, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand clarified.
He suggested that food, drinking water and toilets should also be ensured. He said that in the recent past, there have been incidents of students falling ill in hostels due to food quality and other reasons, and appropriate strict steps should be taken to prevent such situations from recurring. CS Vijayanand ordered that quality bedsheets and carpets be distributed to all students in various welfare hostels through APCO by the end of this month.
Earlier, SC and ST Welfare Secretary Y. Nayak and BC Welfare Secretary S. Satyanarayana explained the admissions, facilities provided, their functioning and other aspects of hostels, residential schools of the respective departments.
