AMARAVATI : Four people have died so far due to adulteration of milk in the Lala Churuvu area near Rajahmundry in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, the District Collector and Superintendent of Police said in a press conference this morning. They said that 12 more people are undergoing treatment in various hospitals.

The deceased have been identified as N. Seshagiri Rao (72), Radhakrishna Murthy (74), Tadi Krishnaveni (76) and Tadi Ramani (58). The SP said that the post-mortem reports of these deaths are awaited.

The Collector said that the district administration was alerted immediately after kidney-related cases were registered in Chowdeshwarinagar and Swaroopnagar areas near Rajahmundry. She said that immediate action has been taken in coordination with the district administration, medical health, food security, police, revenue, animal husbandry departments and municipal officials.

She said that a house-to-house survey was being conducted in the affected areas through special response teams and necessary medical services were being provided. So far, 12 people have been admitted to various hospitals in the city with kidney problems requiring dialysis, and it was found that the same milk trader supplied milk to all of them.

S P, said that he was immediately arrested and a case was registered. He also said that blood tests are being conducted on the families of 106 houses to which the trader supplied milk, and so far blood samples have been collected from 73 families. He clarified that all of them will be provided with appropriate medical services with continuous monitoring.

On this occasion, he said that the cattle from which milk was collected were also tested by the Animal Husbandry Department for 46 cattle and the samples were sent to the laboratories of the Scientific and Animal Husbandry Departments.

He said that the milk, curd and other dairy products collected by the food safety officials have been sent to laboratories in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam. He said that further action will be taken as soon as the reports are received.

He revealed that the Chief Minister has given clear instructions to provide the best medical services to the victims and to identify the root causes as soon as possible.

He said that comprehensive awareness should be created among the people so that misconceptions do not spread and instructions should be given to utilize all necessary resources. The Collector And SP said that there is no need for panic among the people on this occasion.
