AMARAVATI: (Visakhapatnam) The joint inspection of the proposed fishing jetty and breakwaters in the Yarada coast has assumed significance.
This marks a new administrative step for the long-pending coastal infrastructure. After almost two decades, the coordinated partnership of five departments at this level is considered a decisive step in improving the livelihood of the fishermen in the region, said AP TDP Chief Palla Srinivasa Rao.
During the inspection of the construction site of the proposed fishing jetty for the fishermen of Gangavaram and Dibbapalem, the local fishermen were directly interacted with to assess their needs, their naval strength and the current livelihood conditions.
The inspection was attended by Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board Chief Engineer Padmasree, Board Members Satyanarayana, Srinivas, Visakhapatnam Port Authority Superintendent Engineer Srinivas, Gangavaram Port General Manager Bapuji, Fisheries Joint Director Lakshmana Rao and other senior officials.
Srinivas stressed that the construction of fishing jetties and breakwaters at Yarada would serve as a crucial infrastructure development to stabilize and improve the livelihood of fishermen.
He observed that the project would not only reduce the risks faced while fishing in the deep sea but would also significantly improve safety standards. Emphasizing that procedural hurdles should not hinder the implementation, he directed the concerned authorities to undertake a comprehensive technical assessment at the earliest and prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) without delay.
Reiterating the coalition government’s commitment to coastal development and welfare of fishermen, he said that many neglected projects are now being revived and accelerated with the coordination of various departments. He said that such collaborative efforts are giving a new impetus to development programmes across the region.

Srinivasa Rao said that the government is moving forward with a clear and systematic plan to make the Yarada region a focal point for the growth of the fisheries sector.
