Statement by Borra Gopi Murthy, the candidate who won the East West Godavari Teachers’ Constituency election

The education sector is very crucial for the progress of the country, and I will work to resolve the issues of teachers and education in the State Legislative Council, said Borra Gopi Murthy, the candidate who won the East West Godavari Teachers’ Constituency election.
In the State Legislative Council, East West Godavari Teachers’ Constituency election, candidate Borra Gopi Murthy was elected as an MLC by securing more than the required quota of votes.
The counting of votes for this election was conducted on Monday at the ground floor of the Dr. BR Ambetkar Library in the local JNTU Kakinada campus in the presence of election observers K. Harshvardhan, returning officer District Collector Shanmohan Sagili, Joint Collector Rahul Meena, District SP Vikrant Patil and candidates’ agents.
The counting of votes, which began at 8 am on 14 tables, was completed by 1 pm. Out of the total 15,494 votes cast in this election, 814 were invalid votes, while out of the remaining 14,680 valid votes, Borra Gopimurthy got 9,165 votes in the first round itself.
Other candidates who contested in this election were Gandham Narayana Rao with 5,259 votes, Deepak Pulugu with 102 votes, Namana Venkata Lakshmi (Villa Lakshmi) with 81 votes, and Dr. Nageswara Rao Kavala with 73 votes. The quota of votes determined based on valid votes was 7,341, exceeding this, Borra Gopi Murthy got 9,165 votes in the first round of delayed counting. With the approval of the Election Commission, the Returning Officer, District Collector, Kakinada declared him elected as MLC and handed over the certificate.
Speaking to the media, the newly elected MLC Borra Gopi Murthy thanked all the teachers who made him MLC with immense admiration and trust.
