After completing his studies in America, He started his career as an apprentice in Tata Steel Company, Jamshedpur at the call of J.R.D Tata.
In 1991, Ratan took over from J.R.D Tata as the Chairman of the Tata Group. At that time this decision was opposed by many members of the board. Everyone argued that a multi-core business empire could not have run in the hands of an inexperienced Ratan. But they didn’t know then that he would be the man who would spread the Tata Group like no others.
