culminates Swachhata Pakhwada Campaign
The Vijayawada Division of South Central Railway successfully concluded the Swachhata Pakhwada Campaign today with a media briefing at the DRM Conference Hall, Vijayawada. Shri Narendra A Patil, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Vijayawada Division, addressed the press, highlighting the success of the cleanliness drive that took place from 1st to 15th October 2024 under the theme ‘Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskar Swachhata’.
During the fortnight-long campaign, the division witnessed active participation from officers, staff, school and college students, Scouts & Guides, and NGOs. In his address, Shri Narendra A Patil, DRM expressed his pride in the collective efforts of the entire community, saying, “The campaign was not just about cleaning but about raising awareness and instilling a sense of responsibility towards cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation.”
The Vijayawada Division organized a total of 820 events during the Swachhata Pakhwada, with an additional 1,303 events under the Swachhata Hi Seva initiative. Shri Narendra Patil, DRM commended the work undertaken by Shri Kishore, Sr.DEnHM and the Environment & Housekeeping Department in the last one month being the driving force towards the public’s involvement in cleanliness drives and awareness activities, underscoring their contribution to the movement.
Certificates of Appreciation were presented to the officers and staff for their exemplary work, and Shri Patil urged everyone to continue working towards a cleaner and more sustainable railway environment.
Highlights of the campaign include:
Cleanliness drives across 149 stations, covering 500 target units.
250 Swachhata pledge events organized with more than 25,000 people’s participation including staff
500 cleanliness target units identified and cleaned.
12,000 trees planted under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ program.
600 tonnes of waste collected and cleared.
200+ awareness programs conducted, including rallies, walkathons, and door-to-door campaigns.
100 intensive cleaning drives focused on water bodies, kitchens, pantry cars, and food stalls ensuring improvement in hygiene standards at food stalls, canteens, pantry cars, and train coaches.
120 trains cleaned, and plastic bottle crushers installed at stations.
Safai Mitra Suraskha Shivir, health checkups were conducted, 1050 railway and contract staff participated, with 209 ailments identified and addressed.
School children and students participated through competitions and awareness activities, promoting a clean and sustainable environment.
A Cultural fest at Vijayawada and various competitions across Division for children, converting waste items into art to promote creativity and environmental consciousness.
