Students of GSL Medical Institutions along with teachers organized a “Pink Run” in Rajahmundry today as part of “Pink October” campaign to spread awareness about breast cancer.
State Cultural Affairs Minister Kandula Durgesh and ONGC Rajahmundry Asset Executive Director Shantanudas flagged off the 5K run in the histarikal city in the Rajahmundry.
Andhra Pradesh State Culture & Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh, said that Cancer Awareness Run has been providing medical services to the people of Godavari region for the last three decades under the leadership of Dr. Ganni Bhaskara Rao, Chairman of GSL Cancer Hospital. The Minister lauded the great service rendered by the Mobile Cancer Screening Unit in reaching out to the people.
The 5 km run started from Rajahmundry Pushkarghat and started at 7 am across the Godavari Bund. Around 1,200 young men and women participated. Students of GSL medical institutions including medical, dental, physiotherapy, nursing, paramedical students, arts college students participated in the run.
GSL Independent College of Nursing Principal Ms. Geetha said that India ranks first in the world in terms of breast cancer patients. She emphasized that if cancer is detected early, there is a 95% chance of recovery.
₹ 15,000 was awarded to Chelloboina Venkata Pradeep who stood first in the 5K run, ₹ 10,000 to Kilaparthi Bhaskar who stood second and ₹ 5,000 to Mudili Sarath Chandra Prasad who stood third. Said the hospital management.
Rajamahendravaram MLA Adireddy Vasu and Rajanagaram MLA Bathula Balaramakrishna handed over the checks.
